18th October 1937.

Dear

We are acting for Mr. Wah Lee who, with two partners, carries on a laundry business at 17 Orchard Street, Weston- super-Mare. He is a Chinese subject resident in England since the year 1916 and holds a Chinese passport S.256, issued at London on 20th December 1915, and an Identity book issued at Bath on October 16th 1916, No. 108686, Ref. No. 201.

Mr. Wah Lee has requested us to make application on his behalf for his nephew Mr. Li Wah and his cousin Mr. Chu Wai Tai who are at present residing in Hong Kong to enter the United Kingdom in order that they may reside with him in this town.

We enclose copies of the Birth Certificates of Mr. Li Wah and Chu Wai Tai, from which it appears that they are both of British nationality having been born in Hong Kong. Both gentleman are still residing at the addresses of their parents given in the Certificates.

We are informed (but we cannot say with what degree of accuracy) that Mr. Li Wah and Chu Wai Tai applied recently to the British Authority in Hong Kong for British passports to enable them to enter the United Kingdom and they were told that passports could not be issued without a Home Office permit to show that they have homes to come to in England and some one here who will be responsible for them.

Mr. Wah Lee desires his nephew and cousin to assist him in his laundry business, and the cousin, Mr. Chu Wai Tai who is 16 years of age will also attend the County School at Weston- super-Mare. Mr. Wah Lee is therefore prepared to provide work and a home for both the se persons and we shall be glad to receive any permits that may be necessary to enable them to obtain British passports.

The Secretary of State

for Home Affairs,

Home Office,

WHITEHALL, London. S.W.1.

m Yours faithfully,
